It's been twelve hours since Howard first crept into Dr. Banner's lab to try and avoid Peggy Carter's piercing-- and possibly flesh-rending-- gaze. Which surprisingly, aside from his short scuffle with her over his decision to bait a Johann Schmidt impersonator over the Internet, has actually been somewhat successful.

So when the sun slips low behind the horizon and the city lights glitter visibly in the glass paneling surrounding the lab, Howard decides it's about time to face the music and see if he can't work a little magic on Peggy's heart. At least enough to reduce his punishment from a potentially broken nose to a hard slap on the mouth.

He tilts the plexiglass monitor in his hand, flicking a few files over towards Banner's screen and dropping it onto the table before the incoming data message has any time to chime in. Aside from a few tendrils of hair that've wandered out of place over the course of the day, he looks surprisingly well put together; he hopes it'll work to his advantage as he curls his lips into an uneasy little grin, tilting his head down to give Miss Carter a full-on puppy dog stare.

"Before you start shooting at me," he says, cautiously approaching the exit, hands held up in surrender, "can I at least offer to make it up to you by sending you out there to see Rogers face to face?"

House Calls

"I'm sorry, sir, but Mr. Stark is currently unavailable and unannounced house calls are highly discouraged. Please contact Ms. Potts to make an appointment."

Standing at the doorway of Stark's Malibu home, Clint gives the interface on the wall a mildly annoyed glance. The well-mannered rejection isn't unexpected, but Clint would stake his life on the fact that Stark's computer knows exactly who he means by "Mr. Stark". Only Stark would give his AI an attitude problem on purpose.

"No, not your Mr. Stark. I'm here for Stark Senior. I just need to speak with him, don't even need to step inside. Just patch me through."

"I'm sorry, sir, but I am not authorized to allow-"

“Stark, I know you're listening. S.H.I.E.L.D. has some questions for your dad, I'm here to relieve you of babysitting duty. Let me speak to him and we'll both be out of your hair within the hour."

The buzz and click of the door lock releasing comes almost before he's finished the sentence. The smooth English accent follows a short second later, all polite efficiency. "Mr. Stark is in the second guest bedroom on the first floor."

After his late night with Pepper, Howard's thoughts are a tangled mess. A half hour spent staring at the ceiling proves completely fruitless, and he crawls out of bed to reach the far end of his room where he's relocated enough of Tony's tech to make a provisional workstation.

He bites deeply into his lower lip as he reworks housings and solders electronics, letting the guilt and frustration of his numerous failures drain out into mental schematics; a vast network of facts and possibilities that block out the thought of self-loathing entirely. There's no denying that Anthony is the best the world has right now, and this should be his time, but fate wasn't exactly kind when it shoved Howard face first into the future, and he won't keep his sanity intact if he can't push the limits of his intellect. If that means the kid has to take a backseat, then so be it.

His finger slips. He slices the edge of his left hand against a section of metal, accidentally tearing out a few carefully placed wires as he yanks his wrist back in response.

Howard seethes, burying his face in the palm of his damaged hand and slamming his other against the surface of the table. "Son of a bitch."

[It's right at 10 till 8 when Howard shows up at pepper's home with a bouquet of orchids and a bottle of Sassicaia. He's not a man overly concerned with punctuality, but he figures it'll be a nice change of pace for Pepper, who's probably used to dragging Tony into meetings by the scruff of his neck.]

Miss Potts? Hope I'm not too early.

He and his old man have eased into something resembling (if you squint) peaceful cohabitation. This doesn't mean Tony sees a lot of him.

But these days, the family commitment issues aren't all on Howard. Because when the mood catches up to him, Tony Stark will persist weeks on a diet of take-out food in his basement bunker, letting his tan wash out under the all-fluorescent lighting down there. Which means unless he's penciled an armor tech field test into the agenda, he also usually doesn't keep up with the state of the weather.

Today's a little different. Today he has the garage door open, because somebody--he hasn't determined whether it was Dummy or You--must have botched last month's maintenance on the ventilation system, so that in the middle of machining a replacement endoskeleton for the one he'd torqued driving his new prototype into the ground after a power failure, he comes so close to asphyxiating at his desk that he has to take a minute, after stumbling outside, to consider the merits of luring both robots into the driveway, pulling their parking brakes, and letting them roll off the cliff.

So it's by chance, really, that when the first sweat-chilling breeze of that freak winter slips a finger past his mansion, Tony is there to take the goose. He turns an eye toward the sky.

"JARVIS," he says, drawing out the AI's name and blinking as a puff of snow settles into his eyelashes, "Get me the weather report, would you?"

And here's a more general post for the community with some basics. No RP etiquette rules since this isn't our first rodeo, just housekeeping things!

TAGGING:

You can get the gist of it via the tags list! Most importantly:

1. Tag all characters featured/active in the thread (character: [name]) - don't forget the space after the colon.
2. Tag the event that your thread is related to. This will be an easy way to keep minor threads within the same big picture plots organized. If you're starting your own thread that you'd like independent of current happenings (chronologically or otherwise), feel free to give it a unique event name! (event: [name])

If you start a thread, tag it either "status: public" or "status: private" - public meaning others can jump in, private meaning it's a private thread that you and another player (or players) have pre-arranged. When threads are finished, you can switch the tags to "status: closed".

GENERAL:

And, in case it needs to be said: you're in no way limited to posts only related to current events going on. If you get an idea for something else you'd like to explore or have a scene you really want to hash out between characters, feel free!

You'll also notice that there are several tumblr prose logs that aren't here yet - I just stuck to the big impact ones, but obviously the cute/private/side logs are also welcome here! Feel free to compile and post any logs you'd like to, just be sure to put them behind cuts and tag appropriately for easy browsing.

OOC: Moving forward with the plot!

HEY BROVENGERS

To move forward, we thought it would be much easier and more peaceful to do long/prose RP here, and continue casual RP on tumblr. Since we were all too busy and tumblr was far too disorganized to handle it, I figured we could just dive in here with the Dark Elves plot that we intended to start over Christmas. Keep in mind that this is supposed to be a lower stress environment than the tumblr RP, and is way more flexible in terms of starting your own threads, jumping into threads in-progress or bowing out as time requires.

The plot got semi-started in this thread, but that's as far as we got - essentially we can start with a clean slate, baddies attacking and Avengers responding.

For a refresher, from Lyn and Avali's posts:

You may have your characters notice worsening weather conditions, globally, in the days leading up to Christmas!

As this involves the dark denizens of Svartalfheim, those of you involved in the holiday…erh…festivities, in addition to the icy chill of winter, can also feel free to come across bands of Dark Elves. Keep in mind they are hostile to all non-dark elfy bros and ladies, and will act on those feelings.

Some things to keep in mind about the Dark Elves:

They have the same sort of classes you’d expect from any fantasy drowish creature: spellcasters, swordsmen/ladies, rogues, etc.

They are almost completely invisible/undetectable when hiding in shadows. However, if your character has the ability to see in pure darkness, they will probably be able to spot them with a bit of effort.

These elfingtons will be around until Malekith is confronted and after.

They will skitter around alone, or in packs of up to five, though those packs can also be near each other, and alerted should a fight break out.

Do whatever you want. This is a plot for fun and freedom. If you want to have them attack a random person and swoop in for a rescue, do it. If you want them to sneak in and steal important weapons or items, go for it. If you want to fight a whole group on your own and howl in victory while bathed in the blood of the fallen, more power to you.
